The Presence of Presents + a Heartfelt Gift Guide

The Presence of Presents + a Heartfelt Gift Guide

December 3, 2020

It's our time of year — the end of it! We really mean the time when what we strive for in our lives is truly celebrated:  grace, ease & joy. In planning this month's premiere, we reflected on last year's episode "The Presents of Presence," where we focused less on presents and a lot more about presence, because being present is in short supply at this busy time of year.

Gennifer and Noreen share a meaningful conversation where we revisit the gifts that we had received that touched us deeply and raised our spirits. Our most cherished items ranged from "found items" given to us by a surprise someone to an incredibly thoughtful invitation for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We reflect on the flow of generosity and gratitude and how difficult it can be, for women especially, to receive, resulting in blocking — even hoarding — that magical exchange of giving and receiving

Then you're invited! We reveal items that have brought us either grace, ease or joy and are providing you with links on our site so you can purchase them for yourself, a friend, family member or maybe even a stranger.

Our authentically curated list of gift ideas is from both of our hearts as is our deepest blessing that your December is warm and bright.

Family Gathering Cheer

Family Gathering Cheer

November 19, 2020

Imagine if your family could talk about conflict in a way where everyone involved felt heard, cared for and supported; with each of you joined by your own therapist, who brings compassion and respect for everyone involved.

Gennifer and Noreen talk to Tanya Cole-Lesnick, LCSW-R, an expert in navigating family dynamics, about The Nest — an incredibly supportive and nurturing opportunity innovated at The Lighthouse Retreat & Wellness Center located in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.  We chat about The Nest as an integrated family therapy experience that offers an alternative to more traditional programs. Some of their tools include:

⭐  💚   In-the-moment live journaling: where clients can capture situations as they are being felt (vs a week later after processing it). This allows the individual sessions to focus on the deeper work so time isn’t wasted on catching up.

⭐  💚    Being a Professional Witness:* where the therapists bring their professional training and relationship with their client to the group meeting and at the same time hold space for this experience on behalf of the client and the therapeutic relationship. *name coined by Noreen in an aha moment

⭐  💚  ⭐  Loving support: from the therapists, not just for their clients, but for all individual family members involved, making this a very inclusive, collaborative experience to help a family heal and move forward together.

We hope this conversation inspires your curiosity and wonder
about new ways for you and those you love to thrive.

The Magic of the Beatles, with guest Ken Dashow

The Magic of the Beatles, with guest Ken Dashow

November 5, 2020

Noreen and Gennifer speak with Ken Dashow, one of New York’s most loved DJs and a foremost authority on the Beatles. We talk about the serendipity of Beatles coming together and how their journey changed the world with their music.

We also take a look at some of the most unanswerable questions ever! How, after over 50 years, are The Beatles STILL the number one selling artists in the world? And what was the magic that brought them together?

  • How the four members of the Beatles came together against the odds
  • Their choice to take a risk and disrupt their mop-top success to produce new music that authentically reflected their own spiritual growth
  • Fun stories and observations from other classic rock legends about the Beatles
  • John Lennon’s messages then and how they are still relevant right now

We hope this beautiful conversation reconnects you with the lyrics, the melodies, and reminds you that “All You Need is Love.”

Ken is the afternoon host of Q104.3, a classic rock radio station, and the host of Breakfast with the Beatles, which airs every Sunday on iHeartRadio.

Noreen & Gennifer take a look at different personality tests and different energy sensory systems for their insights into our individual strengths, communication styles and stress responses. (eek!) August rePLAY: Tina to Table

August rePLAY: Tina to Table

August 27, 2020

In this light-hearted interview from Health & Cooking Coach, Tina Corrado, of "Tina to Table,” we learn how Tina kept 150 lbs off for over 17 years by developing a positive relationship with food and cooking. She created her healthiest self by understanding her habits and choices and redefining the childhood lesson that food = love. Now she helps her clients do the same.

As we all get back on track the best we can -- taking it day by day -- we found this episode to be a great reminder of the steps we can take to truly nourish our bodies while changing our status with food from “it’s complicated” to “in a relationship” with lots of hearts.

August rePLAY: Chakra Clearing for Trauma Healing

August rePLAY: Chakra Clearing for Trauma Healing

August 20, 2020

In 2005, our guest Catherine Varino’s first child was born early and before she could even process that experience, she had to evacuate her home in New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina.

Catherine shares how that double whammy set her on the path to discover the deep but gentle healing potential of Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT), part of the energy psychology world.

AIT accesses trauma in the chakras to deeply clear both current and past traumas, and most uniquely, the connection between the two! By focusing on the chakras, the results are proving to be long-lasting and far-reaching.

Listen for the powerful takeaways you can start using today as you continue to navigate through this unforgettable year.

We're rePLAYing this episode because, let’s face it, we still have some pandemic, political and personal mountains to climb and our primitive brain doesn’t know the difference between actual danger vs perceived danger. This friendly conversation and our regular YPM Dose to try at home will be just what you need to hear.

Noreen also deflates FEAR and shares what’s standing behind it: “False Evidence Appearing Real.”

Knowing Your No

Knowing Your No

June 4, 2020

In this episode, E.J. reveals a recent fragile realization that she has to make a difficult but necessary change in her life in the name of self-care. With great honesty, she shares her experience of accepting how much she can take on and moves from our co-host to a guest and contributor.

We go through the many ways women, in particular, have a more challenging time putting ourselves first and saying no to people, projects and things that are draining, damaging or no longer serving us even when it doesn't feel right.

We also share ways to recognize and respect your own internal voice and the tools you need to identify and clear your blocks gently so you can forge a new path forward with guilt-free confidence, clarity and lots of compassion.

In this episode, we discover the term Toxic Positivity as well as how, when and why we hosts have perpetrated it, ya know, a few times in our lives. Gennifer has an aha moment — she might be enlisting her sunnyside personality to repel anything that triggers negative emotions. Wait, doesn’t that sound pretty good?

Not so fast. We set out on a quest to find acceptance and embrace the beautiful truth behind “Yeah, that sucks!"

Lemons into Lemonade

Lemons into Lemonade

May 7, 2020

We’ve all weathered weeks of quarantine, and we're focusing on resilience! We turned to our friend Jill, who runs a small company — 6 staffers plus 4 freelancers — because when the country’s shutdown took most of her business with it, she was faced with the choice to panic or persevere.

As Jill shares, all her personal pursuits and her commitment to self-care kept her out of panic and guided her pivot. Her state of being kept her open to inspiration and creativity, which led to new solutions that have her staff super-busy instead of worried. She talks about how moving out of her normal fear/anxiety mindset freed her up to think clearer and see the possibilities.

We hope listening will help inspire new ways to make lemonade when you’ve got a surplus of lemons.

The Currency of Money

The Currency of Money

April 23, 2020

As the world continues to shift and realign, we’re all working on finding our new footings. Yet, at Your Practical Magic, we’re still focused on how to reduce reactivity to life’s challenges.

In this episode, we’re talking about money and how to begin the transformation from seeing money as a scary green monster wielding overwhelm and panic to just another energetic vibration to interact with — and integrate — to add to life’s abundance.

We each found that the deepest wealth and success came from trusting that our experiences prepared us deep within to stand strong when old patterns and financial hardships challenged us to grow. That’s the reallocation we’re invested in!
